It is a form of jungle juice that combines 6 different liquors and is served with a can of Red Bull on top for a boost of caffeine. It starts as blue on the top and transforms to green in the middle and bottom of the cocktail. The sweet and potent cocktail is a staple at college parties, bars , and of course, St. Patrick’s day. Ever heard of Long Island Iced Tea, it is a mix of many different types of alcohol but instead of a splash of soda, this drink is topped with a whole can of Red Bull energy drink.

Irish Trash Can Ingredients:

Gin

Light rum

Vodka

Peach schnapps

Blue Curacao

Triple Sec

Red bull Energy Drink

Straws

Further Knowledge for the Ingredients:

Red Bull Energy Drink: you can use your favorite energy drink but the yellow Red Bull mixing with the Blue Curaçao is what gives the drink its signature green color. Plus, some energy drinks such as Monster energy drink are in larger cans, so it’s best poured into the drink, rather than placing the entire can in the glass.

Peach Schnapps: You can increase or decrease the amount of peach schnapps as per your taste. It has alcohol volume of about 30-40 vol-% and has a flavor of raspberry, apple , pear plum, cherry, peach, or apricot.

Triple Sec: This drink is triple dry, by this I mean this is less sweet than other orange liqueurs. Cointreau or Grand Marnier or citrus liqueur can be substituted if desired. It has approximately 20-40% alcohol by volume.

Light Rum: It is also known as white or silver rum and has nearly no color and a light flavor.Rum has a high alcohol by volume ratio, approximately 40% ABv and above. To keep the green color of the drink, be sure to use a light rum and not dark rum.

Instructions

Pour the Blue Curacao into the bottom of a large pint glass.

Fill ½ to ¾ way with ice.

Add remaining alcohol.

Add the Red bull by quickly flipping the can upside down and placing the entire can into the glass.

Alternatively you can pour the energy drink on top, and serve with a straw and slice of lemon or orange.

Enjoy!

Tips And Tricks

Pouring the blue curacao first gives a more layered look to the cocktail.

.75 oz equals 1.5 tablespoon of alcohol or ½ a jigger.

For larger serving glasses such as punch bowls or fish bowls, you can increase the alcohol pour to 1 to 2 oz.

For smaller glasses or a less boozy drink, you can use a .5 oz pour of each alcohol.

You can also make it non alcoholic by replacing red bulls with a caffeine-free, fruit flavored soda.

Making a Pitcher of Irish Trash Can:

Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. Combine them in a large pitcher, but wait to add the Red Bull until serving.

Serve: Pour the mixture into individual ice-filled highball glasses, invert a Red Bull can into each, garnish, and serve immediately.

Recipe Variations & Tips

Irish trash can with Jameson. Make it “more Irish” by replacing either the ounce of gin, vodka, or rum with Jameson Irish Whiskey.

Irish trash can with Monster. Use a different flavored energy drink like Monster, if it is yellow then the resulting drink will be that cool green color. If you don’t care about the color of this drink, you could try the other flavors of Red Bull in it instead.

Use double the curaçao. Blue curaçao and triple sec are very similar, they are both orange liqueurs. But, blue curaçao is colored blue (or orange colored in some cases). You don’t have to add triple sec if you don’t have it, you could just use a double shot or double the amount of blue curaçao.

Add more peach schnapps. Make it a little sweeter by adding more peach schnapps.
