4 Ways To Stay Healthy During Flu Season

Everyone can catch the flu anytime and from anywhere. This can be transmitted by someone who has it, and the virus can be spread through talking, sneezing, or coughing. The flu season usually happens during the fall and winter. Therefore, it’s imperative to take extra care during these times.

The virus from the flu is relatively stronger than a cold, which is why it’s vital to apply stronger precautions. Flu viruses change often, and flu vaccines are also constantly being developed because of that. And so, if you or any of your family belongs to high-risk groups, it’s essential to stay healthy during the flu season.

Here are some of the best health practices that you can do:

  • Get Vaccinated

It’s recommended to get the flu vaccine yearly to boost your health during flu season. Fortunately, the vaccine supply is abundant and can be accessible all year long. Generally, your body will produce antibodies against the virus two weeks after receiving the vaccine, making it effective in protecting you from catching the flu virus. You can also protect other people from serious flu illness in this way.

According to health experts, any person who is medically cleared and over six months of age can be vaccinated against the flu. Also, the ideal time to get the flu shot is during the beginning of the flu season. But it’s recommended to get it earlier than to spread the disease among friends and families.

  • Wash Your Hands Properly And Often

One great practice to protect yourself naturally and easily from flu is to wash your hands properly and as often as possible. While this is a no-brainer tip, and many people do this anyway, it’s worth emphasizing that washing hands too short or improperly can still allow the virus to spread and cause you to catch the flu.

This respiratory disease can be prevented by hand-washing since the virus usually comes from droplets created through coughing, sneezing, and talking. But aside from that, it’s also possible to get the flu by holding rails, touching door knobs, and so on. Hence, to minimize the chances of being infected, it’s best to wash your hands all the time, especially if you’ve touched any infectious surfaces.

Here are the right steps to wash your hands properly:

  • Rinse your hand with water first and dispense soap into your hands and wrists if possible.
  • Lather up and scrub all surfaces, including the spaces between fingers, fingertips, and fingernails.
  • Continue to lather and scrub for at least 20 seconds. Some doctors even encourage you to sing the ABC song before you can finally rinse your hands again.
  • Finally, you should rinse your hands thoroughly to wash off all soap suds when the time is up.
  • Dry your hands with tissue, and you’re all cleaned up.
  • Keep Your Distance

Generally, it’s best to avoid contact with people who may be sick with the flu to prevent contracting the virus. But, if it’s not possible, protect yourself by maintaining a safe distance. For example, if you have a family member who got the flu, it’s advisable to have them isolated in their room as you care for them from a distance. You can also encourage household members to wear a mask as added protection.

Also, while the flu is not necessarily airborne, some medical experts claim that droplets of the virus could be transmitted as aerosols. In these situations, things and objects can easily get the virus and cause anyone to get sick. Therefore, aside from staying away from people showing symptoms, ensure to disinfect your home or work area as often. Clean all knobs, handles, and other transfer-prone things. The smoother an object is, the more likely it is to transmit microbes.

One of the ways to be healthy during flu season is through intravenous therapies. There are many different types of IV therapies, and each has its own benefits. Mobile IV therapy can also help you get the hydration you need to keep your body functioning properly. IV therapies can help you get the nutrients you need to stay healthy and fight off infection. Nowadays you can also try location-based treatment which can help you to be cured right from the comfort of your home. For example, if you live in Texas you can choose IV therapy in Fort Worth which can help you to get back to your lifestyle quickly.

  • Maintain A Healthy Diet

While maintaining a good diet is an all-time valuable tip for better health, it should be more pronounced during the flu season, especially since it’s the time to make your body stronger and healthier. Go for food that has high doses of vitamin C, like citrus fruits. Such food can help strengthen your immune system while battling against symptoms.

Also, try to eat dishes with garlic and onions as they contain anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antifungal properties. Other healthy and nutritious food such as vegetables should also be included in your diet this flu season. Finally, reduce your sugar intake, as this can cause more inflammation, limit immune function, and worsen your symptoms.

Conclusion

Catching the flu does not only cause discomfort but can be inconvenient as well. It’s contagious and can range from mild to severe cases, which can sometimes be fatal. This is an even more reason not to take the disease for granted. Fortunately, it can be prevented and avoided by equipping yourself with the information and best practices that can help boost your health.

But in an unfortunate incident where you’ll get flu symptoms, it’s imperative to visit a physician before symptoms become severe.
