Cryolipolysis Or Fat Freezing: How Does It Work? Is This Procedure Safe?

In the cosmetic industry, there have been several popular trends that come and go. And if you're up to date with the current trends, you may have heard about various body sculpting procedures. Nonetheless, one that's gaining popularity is cryolipolysis, or the process of freezing or solidifying fat at low temperatures. Visit Here: theharleylaserspecialists.com

If body fat is one of your main aesthetic concerns, the procedure might be worth considering due to its non-invasive nature without involving significant disruption to your daily routine.

What Is Cryolipolysis?

As mentioned, cryolipolysis specifically targets stubborn fat that builds up in certain body parts. The idea of the procedure was based on what happens to fat when frostbite develops. A cryolipolysis device freezes the fat using temperatures that eventually destroy it. But since fat solidifies at a higher temperature than the skin, the skin and other tissues are left unharmed.

CoolSculpting, the brand name for the procedure, aims to freeze and get rid of the subcutaneous fat in the body, usually forming in the arms, legs, and belly. It's the type of fat that's difficult to eliminate as a person starts to age. If you're still speculating on the safety and effectiveness of the procedure, it has been approved since 2010 by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

What Happens During Cryolipolysis?

As a non-invasive procedure, cryolipolysis doesn't utilize needles or anything that involves opening up the skin. During the procedure, a device is held over the targeted body part to produce the cooling effect and left on the site for up to 30 minutes to an hour. The device can destroy approximately 20-25% of fat cells during that period. And although the final results will not be evident in months, one can expect some changes within a few weeks.

Depending on the areas you want to focus on, the doctor can eliminate fat cells in various parts of the body where subcutaneous fat is likely to build up, such as the belly, thigh, areas below the chin and jawline, back and sides, upper arm, gluteal fold in the butt area and along the bra line.   The immune system destroys frozen cells after a person undergoes the procedure. And as a key element in the body's immune response, the macrophages take on the responsibility for clearing out the frozen or dead fat cells during this period by digesting them steadily.

Who Is Suitable To Undergo Cryolipolysis?

Over the years, cryolipolysis has been proven a safe and effective treatment for individuals eager to cut down on fat. It can be considered the ideal alternative to liposuction or surgery since it doesn't involve any downtime or disruption to a person's daily routine.

However, note that the procedure is mainly for fat loss, not a method to cut down weight. If you have unsightly fat build-up that you can pinch and pull out to a certain degree, you may be a suitable candidate for the procedure, especially if exercise or diet fails to eliminate them.

What Are The After-effects?

One of the advantages of cryolipolysis is that it no longer requires a recovery period, unlike in liposuction or tummy tuck and other invasive procedures. After the procedure, you can go straight home.

Although there’s no significant after-effect, it’d be good to be ready for a few effects during and after the procedure. As you undergo cryolipolysis, expect a pulling or tugging sensation on your skin and intense cold in the area being targeted. And after the procedure, one could expect soreness similar to the one you experience after a workout routine, along with minimal swelling.

Is Cryolipolysis Effective?

The studies on cryolipolysis show that the procedure is safe and effective, with only a few potential risks. As for the after-effects of the procedure, most are relatively mild and subside after a short while. In average cases, the procedure shows promising results in reducing the amount of fat in areas being targeted at around 10-25%.

How Much Does Cryolipolysis Cost?

As a cosmetic procedure, various factors come into play in the cost of cryolipolysis and will not be covered by insurance. Some elements that can affect the price of the procedure include the body part to be targeted, the number of sessions the doctor will recommend, and who'll perform the procedure.

In most cases, if you plan on getting the procedure to cover several body parts, the higher the price will be. Today, a tailored treatment plan can fetch a price amounting to the thousands range.

Final Thoughts

Among the current body sculpting trends, cryolipolysis is currently the trend and preferred choice by many individuals as an effective fat reduction procedure. If you're planning to undergo the procedure to deal with unwanted fat, it should be accompanied by a few lifestyle changes to ensure the best results in no time.
