Birth control pills are a simple and convenient way of preventing pregnancy. All currently sexually active people who don't wish to conceive should use birth control methods to prevent unwanted pregnancies. Various contraceptives are used in order to avoid pregnancies, but birth control pills are more common, affordable, and among the most effective way to prevent unwanted pregnancies. Birth control pills are effective when used properly against pregnancies, but they cannot protect people from STDs. Most women use pills, and although they are effective, some may experience side effects. The article will expound on the pros and cons of birth control pills and show users how it may impact their health.

Pros of the Contraceptive

Beyond preventing pregnancy, oral contraceptives can be useful to the female body. The health benefits include clearing up skin, helping to prevent anemia, and making periods less painful, more regular, and lighter.

Hormonal balance

The pills affect the menstrual cycle by changing the body's hormonal balance. While balancing the hormones, heavy bleeding during periods might be significantly reduced. The pills work differently for everyone, so they might not have the same symptoms for all users, but the hormonal balance often causes periods to be lighter. By controlling the levels of the relevant hormones, the pills reduce pain because they prevent ovulation, and so avoid the painful contractions and cramps that can occur during this time.

Health benefits

Birth control pills reduce the chances of osteoporosis, a condition where the bones become weak. They may also reduce the chances of getting certain cancers. This is because cancerous cells are broken down due to the hormonal change within the body. The pills also prevent ovarian cysts, which may be harmful and can even affect fertility. Other health benefits include preventing excess body hair, acne, menstrual migraines, and vaginal dryness.

Cons of the Contraceptive

The use of birth control comes with its own set of side effects, but the good news is they might not be serious because they tend to fade away after some time. The side effects include headaches, breast tenderness, nausea, and bleeding between periods. Other side effects include depression and changes in libido, which may lead to a higher sex drive. In addition, the pill may create health complications if the user indulges in certain vices or has other underlying conditions.

Oral contraceptives are generally safe to use, but women who smoke are at increased risk of developing complications such as blood clots. For example, if you are confined to a bed or have a cast, blood clots may occur because there is no proper blood circulation. Other conditions that may affect women when using the pill are high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol.

Certain factors may lower the effectiveness of the pills, which would be termed as a con because it does not let the medication perform its duties. One aspect is that the pill may not be as effective on overweight women, and scientists made conclusions about blood hormone concentrations. Another factor that could affect the pill's efficacy is using other medications. Therefore, it is advised that you should disclose the medication you are taking to the physician. The physician will be able to prescribe the correct brand of pills once they receive the information.

Final Thoughts

The pill has been in the market since the 1960s, and it's been met with opposition from certain religious societies. However, despite the opposition, they are effective and safe, and more people are warming towards the method because of its usefulness in reducing unwanted pregnancies. When used as directed, they are 99% effective, and it is recommended that users should always seek medical advice before using the pill. You must discuss the pros and cons of the drug with your physician and come up with a reliable way of mitigating any side effects. It may take a few months for the side effects to go away, and when that happens, the physician may prescribe a different brand. It may take trial and error when choosing a brand, but you will find something that suits your body.
