Sometimes the aches and soreness you feel in your muscles tell you that there's something wrong. In some cases, your body will prompt you to lie down. A new holistic health discipline now focuses on how this language can help people better understand their bodies. And in a way, it aims to employ effective strategies to put the body and mind back in good shape and form. This is what they call muscle testing. 

What Is Muscle Testing? 

Muscle testing, also called applied kinesiology, is a discipline that teaches how the body's muscles react to stimuli, whether it's biological, physical, mental, or emotional. The muscle's ability to resist pressure is believed to help identify imbalances in various body structures based on specialized lymphatic messages. In addition, the idea behind muscle testing is that every organ dysfunction leading to illnesses may be associated with weakness in a specific muscle.

A Brief History Of Applied Kinesiology 

Many kinesiologists will tell you that the third law of motion by Sir Isaac Newton, which says: ‘for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction’ is the foundation of muscle testing. This is because most muscle testing is done by applying some resistance to various body parts. 

The first test to measure muscle weakness was done on a polio patient in 1949 by two physiotherapists named Kendall. But it was in 1964 when their technique was used by chiropractor Dr. George Goodheart combined with chiropractic principles to evaluate muscle strength. 

Soon after, Dr. Goodheart, with his vast knowledge, incorporated neuro lymphatic reflexes, nutrition, and traditional Chinese medicine to develop what is now Applied Kinesiology. Today, Applied Kinesiology is used by medical-related practitioners such as physiotherapists. 

And to give you an idea, here are ways muscle testing can improve your general wellness: 

  • Identify Food And Environmental Allergies 

You may sometimes feel discomfort and weakness, but you're not exactly sure what's causing this. It could be new allergies from food and environmental stimulus that have not manifested before. 

Muscle testing can help identify the weakening and which substances you've been exposed to could have been the culprit. Kinesiology techniques can be immediately applied to alleviate the symptoms without using synthetic drugs. That way, you can feel better and live a normal life, the life before the pesky allergies began to surface. 

  • Reduce Stress 

Stress builds up when cortisol surges. Cortisol is a hormone that is your body's fight-or-flight response. It's your body's reaction to things and situations around you that you can't control. While some people can accept that stress is a daily part of life, the buildup of stress can lead to illnesses like heart problems, stroke, and weight gain.   

With muscle testing, a kinesiologist can help identify the areas of your body affected by stress. It can also help trace and restore any possible imbalance in your system. When you determine the cause of your stress and can identify how it harms your body, you’re in a better position to take proactive ways to eliminate them to live a happier life. 

  • Help With Your Sleep Problems 

If you find that every night, you spend a very long time drifting off to dreamland, and it only takes a light scratch to wake you, you could be suffering from sleep disorders. And while you may think that this is harmless, poor sleep quality can adversely affect a considerable part of your health, leading to high blood pressure, weight gain, and weakened immunity.
