Climbing into bed at the end of the day should be a time for you to feel cosy and relaxed, but if your bed is not comfortable, this may not be the case! But fear not – there are a few things that you can do to get the most from your bed, and you don’t even have to change your mattress (unless it’s time for a new one!). So, whether you’re hoping to add another element of comfort to your current mattress, or you need a new pillow to support and comfort you – there is something to suit everyone. Read on as we take a look at how to choose the best online mattresses to suit your preferences, and how you can improve the comfort of your current mattress.

1- Choose the right mattress 

When it comes to being comfortable when you sleep, choosing the right mattress for your body is essential. Your mattress should provide both comfort and support so that you can get a good, uninterrupted night’s sleep, and wake up feeling refreshed. There is a huge variety of mattresses on the market to choose from, and it can seem difficult to choose the best one – where do you start?

Thinking about the position you are most comfortable in is the most helpful. If you’re a side sleeper, you’re going to need a mattress that is slightly softer and contouring with additional pressure relief. If you prefer to sleep on your back, you’ll need a mattress that can keep your spine aligned with sufficient support throughout the night. And if you sleep on your front, support will also be needed to prevent putting strain on the lumbar region. Generally, the firmness that you find most comfortable is your choice but ensuring that your mattress fits the way you sleep is essential when it comes to comfort and support.

2- Try a mattress topper 

If you’re not looking to invest in a mattress just yet, or you have a mattress that suits the way you sleep but you think you could be cosier – a mattress topper could be the best choice for you. These toppers can change the way your bed feels, without having to buy an entirely new mattress. You can choose toppers made with pads of memory foam, a latex material that can provide the same feel as a memory foam topper but tend to be more durable, and some even contain a gel layer to keep you cool. If you’re looking for a way of making your firm mattress a little more comfortable, adding a memory foam topper would allow you to feel the supportive benefits of an innerspring mattress, whilst still feeling the comfort that comes with memory foam.

3- Upgrade your pillow 

You may not think much about your pillow, but one size doesn’t fit all. If you’re tossing and turning, struggling to get to sleep or waking up with neck pain, choosing a new pillow to suit you could make a huge difference. If you sleep warm, you should choose a pillow that is both comfortable and breathable so that you don’t get too warm and uncomfortable during the night. If you wake up with neck pain, you may need a material that contours to your neck and spine to keep them aligned – you’ll need a memory foam mattress to help with this. Latex can also be great when it comes to contouring support, or if you’re not ready to give up your soft, fluffy pillows just yet, down pillows may be the best choice for you.
