Vital tech: why every medical facility needs autoclave sterilisation

There is no denying it: absolutely every medical facility needs autoclave sterilisation. This is for the very simple reason that every medical facility needs to properly clean, sterilise and dry their equipment after checkups, examinations, surgeries and other medical processes.

However, a surprising number of Australian medical facilities still go without autoclave sterilisation. This is only putting the health and safety of themselves and their patients at greater risk, especially when you see how many benefits this wondrous technology has in terms of keeping medical equipment safe, clean and completely sterile:

  1. It is a far safer sanitisation method

When medical centres use nasty chemicals to clean their equipment, they are at risk of contaminating vital tools that make direct contact with patients. Certain chemicals used during this obsolete cleaning process can be harsh on the patient, medical practitioner and the environment.

In typical situations, autoclave sterilisation technology provides a new, safer way to sterilise medical and laboratory equipment. Boiling water produces steam, and this is possibly the safest method for equipment cleaning available.

  1. It’s one of the best ways to kill bacteria

These amazing machines kill bacteria with pressurised steam that, when added to the equipment, kills the structural proteins that comprise the organisms and makes them nonfunctional.

Bacteria cells die when they hit a temperature of 100 degrees Celsius, and these machines have the ability to easily reach these temperatures in absolutely no time.

Steam is renowned for its ability to kill off innumerable harmful microorganisms, making this technology an incredibly efficient method for destroying bacteria found on a range of medical equipment. This makes it easy for professionals to continue reusing the same vital equipment, thus making this method much more cost-efficient than that of throwing out and buying new equipment on a regular basis.

Finally, certain microorganisms have become immune to many antibacterial cleaning products, making hot steam the optimal method for killing off these unwanted germs.

  1. It saves you money in the long run

Steam is cheap, accessible and quickly produced. In fact, many homeowners now use steam to clean and sterilise the different rooms in their home as they are tired of using nasty chemicals.

Medical facilities are doing the exact same, as all that is needed is water and the right amount of heat to reach steaming temperature. This is why typical office spaces also benefit from using this advanced technology, as it can easily reach the right steaming temperature when provided with water.

Finally, sanitising risky medical equipment during the day can be quite expensive for medical professionals using the same obsolete cleaning supplies. Since chemicals are already used to clean benchtops, floors, door handles etc. they can easily go through thousands of dollars a year on cleaning products – this bill can be greatly reduced with autoclave sterilisation.

  1. It’s the most time-efficient method

Typical autoclave sterilisation processes will clean and sanitise the equipment within 30-90 minutes depending on the pressure, the temperature set and the amount of tools being cleaned. Sanitisation can take longer if the person has to manually clean each piece of medical equipment, as they will need to check that each tool has been thoroughly cleaned – a nightmare, right?

There is absolutely no need for this outdated and risky approach to sanitisation, as this trusty technology will ensure your equipment is clean, sanitised and absolutely risk-free.

It is for these reasons that is has become one of the most important pieces of technology in medical cleaning.
