Mindfulness: The Perfect Way to Manage Stress During COVID-19

The world has been absolutely crazy in the past couple of years. While COVID-19 forced everything to suddenly shut down, we all found ourselves doing a lot more than we were used to. 

We’ve all become avid multi-taskers, whether we like it or not. Our homes went from being our sanctuaries to being the home base for everything. Work, school, leisure, everything was all bunched up in one place. With all of that cluttering up our homes, we’ve all found ourselves with cluttered minds too. 

Finding yourself dealing with extreme levels of stress in a time like this is expected, but you can’t let that be your permanent state; you have to do something about it. 

One of the best ways to declutter your mind and manage stress is Mindfulness. In this post, we’re going to be talking about mindfulness and how you can use apps like Yours App to practice mindfulness at home without needing anyone’s help! 

First up, What is mindfulness?

Mindfulness is exactly as the name suggests, a process where we become more mindful of what’s going on around us. When things in the world are moving far too fast, you can take a step back, breathe and centre yourself. With Mindfulness, you can start paying attention to the present. Everything that’s actually going on around you. Take in all of the input, and process it in a way that doesn’t overwhelm you. 

Mindfulness – An essential for mental and physical health

Stress can have a direct effect on one’s mental health. A person who’s constantly under immense amounts of stress will find themselves giving into it. At one point or another, their entire body starts reacting to the copious amounts of stress they’re under. 

High levels of stress can affect one’s heart, brain, gut and most of the other organs too. Leading to the entire body falling victim to it. When you’re practising mindfulness, you can lower the stress levels you subject your own body to. In turn, you’ll have much lower levels of stress which will improve both your mental and physical health altogether!

Ways you can practice Mindfulness 

Now that we’ve been over how important mindfulness is, let’s take a look at some of the easiest ways you can practice mindfulness too! 

1. Breathe Right

This is something that’s often overlooked. However, breathing right is one of the best ways to centre yourself in times of need! All you need to do to breathe right. Take a few minutes out in the morning. Sit up on a chair, close your eyes and just empty everything out of your mind. Then, focus on your breathing. Take deep breaths in and out. This will allow you to centre yourself, so you can carry on the rest of the day without having to fight through the mental clutter all the time! 

2. Eat Right 

A lot of people find comfort in food when they’re super stressed out. This is something that makes sense because eating releases serotonin in your brain. However, mindlessly eating will just have you binging without really getting the benefit of the food at all. Instead of just chewing away, think about every bite you take, immerse yourself into the experience and enjoy the entire meal. This way, you will be able to get the nutritional benefits while involving all of your senses. It’ll be an actual break from the hustle and bustle of life, and you’ll be able to nourish your body and your mind!

3. Relax right

If there’s one thing we’ve all universally gotten really bad at, it’s relaxing. It’s getting increasingly hard for everyone to be able to close off the day and head to bed relaxed and at peace. Most of it has to do with the fact that since the home has become home-base, it’s hard to shut off the “day” and head into the relaxing night. One of the easiest ways to relax right is to use a Mindfulness App like the Yours App! With it, you’ll be able to find guides that will help you stay mindful throughout the day and night.
